Sleep helped my throat some but it’s still lousy. Nasal dripping crap.

But let’s talk about E3. I was surprised Nintendo did their conference the way they did but it made for a concise and focused trailer which could be passed around to everyone online. In fact it almost seems like Nintendo is figuring out what it means to be online with gaming. Maybe…possibly.

Charlie X – “Is that a girl?”

But seriously, this kinda emerged on the internets. So we have open-world Zelda Wii U (Skyrim Zelda-style maybe?) and we see the trailer. Actually when questioned about it later, those involved in the game were coy to whether the character in the trailer is Link/Zelda/Someone New. I like either possibility but there’s one that hasn’t been considers. It’s Link but you can change the character appearance and possibly even like in a regular RPG like Skyrim. I’m sticking to this theory until proven otherwise as a create-a-character hero/ine of Time as a descendant of the original Link. Alright…this is going to be a long post. I will try not to go on too long but I’ll start in reverse. Nintendo first.

A MOTHER 3 MENTION! THEY REMEMBER IT EXISTS! It’s nothing confirming but there’s still some stuff to announce from everyone the rest of this week so you never ever know what will happen. I’m still hoping for a Mother MMO by 2016…anyway. They brought the fun and weren’t bloated or anything.

SSB4 - Customizable characters…this is why I kinda wonders if Link would be the same way. They tend to theme stuff together. I like the idea. Three fighting types, short, mid and long-range. Hope they balance well. And the green haired lady from Pit’s games gets her own Shaft-animated anime cutscene. RANDOM VAGUE HOPE FOR ANIME CUTSCENES FOR ALL SMASH CHARACTERS!

Yoshi Wooly World - That’s knit! I never played the Kirby’s Epic Yarn game but this looks fascinating with Yoshi’s equally interesting digestive mechanics. I didn’t really see anything new over KEY but it might be interesting.

Captain Toad - Ooo..little islands of adventure. I didn’t play the mini-game on the Mario game or those games at all but it’s a fun little idea and I like how it’s implemented. It’s a new IP too! Sorta.

More Pokemon coming…

Bayonetta - I was never really grabbed by the game when it was first released but it’s awesome both titles will be on one release. Certainly seems worth it. And it’s a credible answer to the question of where the more “hardcore” games are on Nintendo.

Hyrule Warriors - Neat idea. Didn’t really see too much but I’m sure plenty of people are squeeing.

And there was a new Kirby coming which looks like Canvas but with claymation. That’s a new style and kinda cool. Xenoblade sequel…despite the fact it was pulling teeth to get them to release it in the US. Mario Maker better allow people to share the messed up maps they make. It’s not quite Little Big Planet but it’s a nice effort. Then Star Fox, Fighting Robots and Guarding Robots stuff from Miyamoto…too soon to tell.

Splatoon - This, in a nutshell, was Nintendo’s most concretely impressive offering. 4 on 4 online squid battle. Squiddy Girl’s eyes are twinkling in that anime way. I can already imagine the inspired fan art. I can imagine Ian doing drawings of the character. Granted the gameplay game before the characters I like the style so much. It has a lot of the charm of a Team Fortress and the potential for amazing games like that one. It’s easily Nintendo’s best new IP. A lot of originality on display.

Fantasy Life may be enough for me to get a 3DS. Also Monster Hunter was out there along with Layton.

*Nintendo presser as a whole* - It highlighted what Nintendo does when they’ll on their game…have fun and make unique and enjoyable games. It also highlights their biggest Catch 22…they play different so the mass of developers are too hesitant to go along with them. Also their hardware is last gen+ (slightly above but still low on memory)…third-party will be a pain in the ass again and with a lot of indie support for Xbone and PS4, it’ll be hard to get out of the Catch 22. Devil’s Third might be promising but it wasn’t cut to be very exciting.

PS4 next…I didn’t see everything it was two fucking hours long…it’s E3…not a stockholder’s meeting…Maybe Nintendo had the best approach.

Order: 1886 - Cover-based shooter 4.0…with quick-time events. As someone online said “This will be the best game I'll ever rent.”

Entwined - OH FUCK! I’ve gone crosseyed! This makes regular rhythm games look simple X_X…still…love the style…fish x bird love. And already out.

More LBP…Bloodborne (AKA – You’re gonna die a lot…with zombies!)….seems more Lovecraft though. Then some remasters…new devices…Ratchet and Clank movie eh…sokay. And more Nathan Drake. Also funny Dead Island 2 trailer. Destiny is probably my favorite pitch for a game but I know it’ll probably wind up disappointing. Grim Fandango. Etc.

Good list of nearly everything here again - www.reddit.com/r/gaming/commen…

You can kinda see the difference between a Sony presser and a Nintendo one…you get a lot but it’s kinda all over the place compared with focused game celebration. Sony was alright but it’s more still a promise of what the hardware can do than saying…here’s all the great games that stand above the rest. Nintendo went a good ways to actually showing that they have the games to back it up.

And finally, Microsoft.

I liked that they had Insomniac onboard with a really quirky Sunset Overdrive game…it also spoofed everything wrong with modern games…go gritty and dark and COD-y. It’s like if a skater game, Ratchet and Clank, and a Nintendo game had a kid. It is zombies but it has charm. Fable Legends is also quite charming especially with four player and the option to play the bad guy against the four. A lot of nice charm too.

And Xbone’s own How to Train Your Dragon in Scalebound. Neat concept. More Assassin’s Creed. Then oodles of more indie timed exclusives. I was intrigued by Inside as a different stylized Limbo. The Division had a great trailer. It’s all multi-platform stuff so you kinda have to focus on what is unique to Xbone and it’s not too bad. There’s some effort at getting small and unique titles.

Here’s my absolute favorite trailer though.

*Crying*...wow…I know actual gameplay is puzzle platformer but my gosh…that trailer just was incredible. I remember some years ago that WWI is a time period which some thought impossible for a video game. This might actually work. I’ll be watching when it comes out soon to see if it fulfills the promise seen here.

A lot of amazing games. All I need is….a new computer which can actually play them…a new TV, and all five console and mobile gaming units. Heh…3DS might actually come first because I’m psyched for Fantasy Life and it has the lowest price of admission and etc. Still need to play original DS stuff to completion though.

So E3 in a nutshell.

Nintendo – Does what it does and well. New twists and regular nostalgia.
Sony – Loves to talk but has some potential in the future…not really a unique identity over Xbone but still promises to have a lot of titles. No longer has the price advantage though. Trolls about Last Guardian.
Microsoft – Really hitting the quirky and indie button hard. More color and style. Among “next gen” I’d say it had the better presser for showing all the potential out there in less time than Sony’s 2-hour fest.
Everyone else – A better state to the industry than before. More good studios cropping up. The big ones are supporting small projects. I think things have reached a balance. The only problem is a lot of the spectacle is missing right now. There’s a lot of promise of spectacle but we’ll have to wait and see.

2015 promises to be huge.

Didn’t see any Star Trek. Mudd is hard to watch with a straight face. No anime yet either. Time for news and everything. Although I hit a lot of the video game news already. I’ll try not to repeat myself too much.

And now for NEWS, PICS, and PONIES.

Splatoon reminds me of one of your stories a little bit...

Also it seems really really awesome. If I had money I might buy a Wii U just for that.

Also Valiant Hearts looked so interesting. I want to check that out too.

Mudd...I like Mudd myself. He's a terrible con man but still kind of likeable in his way.
